Revisualizing the Visual

“Revisualizing the visual” is an ongoing, multi-faceted project of mine to view images in new ways. The first phases of the project look at the relationships among different aspects of a photograph (or more generally, any image), relationships that we normally don’t, or can’t, see. A more recent phase has reinterpreted text in a calligraphically encrypted way.

In revisualizing the visual, I draw on my background in cognitive science, linguistics, computer science, and, of course, photography. Cognitive science gives me ideas about how humans perceive colors and images. Linguistics and computer science both give me ideas about how information is structured and how we can model aspects of the world. Computer science additionally provides me with the tools, both abstract and concrete, that I use for the actual revisualizations.
